pushing it forward

What leads us to success?
I am not going to repeat what had been said on that ultra-short presentation on ted. I think that those 8 elements are really extremely important, so when I saw this lecture I started to think. What I am good at? What I can do now? What to do, to be successful? What to push, push, push? I spend some time thinking and nothing came to me. But meanwhile I was pushed by my mother to help me with one project. This post is about this project. ;o)
As a background you should know that: my mother is a professor on Warsaw medical university. She wrote several books and has few hundred papers. Through few last years she produced hundreds articles on health related issues. The idea was to make an internet portal, which will be a bridge between scientific world of hard to understand papers and our world of non professionals.
We have no commercial attitude, we’re not going to change it. That’s not the point. What’s most important: we don’t want to let her work from last few years to disappear. In those articles there is a lot of useful information about health, nutrition, supplements. So why forget about them? Let’s spread this scientificly confirmed knowledge for free!
Because we don’t generate profit from this activity, we don’t have budget for advertisements and marketing campains. So our only hope is to interest people in the content we publish and to tell everybody we can about this project.
Content is interesting topic. Do you know that there is a company on polish market ( I am not going to tell you which one ) which is lunching 37 internet portals about health and supplements? And the best part of it is.. They have no content. So what they do? They pay 10 PLN per page to pupils in gimnazjum and lyceum to translate directly from American portals. Without any verification if that content is any good or not. And what they do to be more trustful? They pay one or two doctors to post comments. And that’s it.
We have good articles which are written by someone who knows the subject. 90% procent of our content has links to literature. Check for your self.
I don’t want to advertise or make an marketing campain using this forum. This is no commercial activity, the idea is just to spread good confirmed knowledge. So spend a few minutes and find out for yourself.

Don’t forget to tell your parents and friends.

I spend a lot of time “pushing” it forward. I hope one day it is going to be popular forum of exchanging valuable knowledge. A thing that I could be proud of. Can you help me? ;o) What do you think of our work? What we can do to improve it?

What is art

What ART is, can you definite it? It seems that any brief definition of art would oversimplify the matter. A work of art is timeless. Art has neither a past nor a future. It comes from the past and creates the future. It shows present. But how do we know whether something is a work of art.?
Guys from Top-Gear tried to work this out:

Im afraid that most of the time things may be recognised by the artworld as works of art for any reason, or for no reason.
And what to do with those things which become art even though they are not. Who has the right to say this is ART.

Another example The Palm in Warsaw: at the begining people hated it but now i think they couldn’t imagine the city without it. The 15 metre artificial palm at the crossing of two of the citie’s main thoroughfares has changed the cityscape forever. And as a symbol of new Warsaw, it has found its way into promotional brochures, postcards ads and video clips.. In december 2002 it was erected by the visual artist Joanna Rajkowska. She was inspired by a recent visit to Israel, and wanted to remind people where the name Aleje jerozolimskie comes from (in the 18th century the street was inhabited by the Jewish community), she simply wanted to change the way people think about urban space. So maybe this example shows how irrational the word of art works. The artworld may classify the crashed car as a work of art if it chooses. So Art and works of art (as they are recognised by the artworld) are only accidentally related, if something triggers emotions sooner or later it will be named ART.
I really can't imagine warsaw without out palm. ;o)

How to live up to 100 years old

Some time ago I had an opportunity to read Dan Buettner’s lecture about so called longevity. During his cogitation he is trying to answer how to live to be 100+.

He starts his research from finding the four demographically confirmed areas that are geographically defined areas where people are living to age 100at rates up to 10 times greater than we are - so called Blue Zones.

  • 1.Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica

  • 2.Sardinia outside Italy

  • 3.The island of Okinawa in Japan

  • 4.Loma Linda in California

And then he brings a team of experts there to go through exactly what people, who live in this areas, do to be able to reach the age 100. He’s theory of longevity contains 5 main points.
He starts from well known facts as plant-based diet accentuated with foods that people can carry into the fields, every day exercising, well organized life with constant points etc. nothing new in fact. But then he points the meaning of the way that society is organized –not so obvious. According to his research one of the most salient elements of the longevity society is how they treat older people – it gives you more chance to reach 100 if you live in society which treats older people with respect and love.

Then he returns to food aspect showing how the way of eating is associated with longevity. The clue is to stop eating when your stomach is 20 percent full. It takes about a half hour for that “fullness” feeling to travel from your belly to your brain it shows that most of the time you even do not notice that you are already full and you do not need food any more. He strongly points the term for the benefits of closely bonded community. The health and longevity advantages of, say, joining a live, knowing your neighbors, shearing your good and bad moments with people who are always next to you.

Does this really work? There are some people, whose life shows that following those points really works. The person that I found the most remarkable was not the oldest one of those interviewed by researchers, but still what he is able to DO at his age is just amazing. He lives in the only blue zone in the US, in Loma Linda. His name is Dr.Wareham from California, he is 94 years old and he STILL performs heart surgeries!!

And Dr.Wareham’s example brings me to another point. In Poland recently we have a public debate about retirement age and government plans to make people work longer. From ageing point of view that’s a good move. Retirement is a waste in today`s society of the knowledge older people have, it`s like they`re meant to just stop living at the age of 65 and wait to die. When there`s still so much left to do, and I`m sure the perfect recipe for getting older is just to sit down and do NOThing. THEN you for sure just fade away.

Buettner ends up his lecture with something that I find extremely interesting he says that the most important thing which is the key to longevity is to have the reason for which you wake up in the morning. I’ve noticed that with this simplest thing we have got the biggest problem, we are losing the point of our life, we are losing the REASON.

What do you thing about this? is it easy for you to give the reason why did you wake up today in the morning?

Using social media

Online media are great for finding things, bright new ideas and creating stuff. The one thing I want to discuss today is social media and its potential. But first, let’s get back to the beginning.

What’s social media? Do you know Facebook, LinkedIn, GoldenLine? Probably you have heard of it and maybe you are using it. So social media can be described as websites that allow users to share content, media, etc.

Now, something more about how it all started. A small video:

A little bit more about social network:

… and we gave tools. People are using it in ways we couldn’t even imagine when designing it. That’s a great way of saying ‘Hey, let’s try it this way. It doesn’t work? How about this…’.

Most of us don’t need most of them – those tools. I use facebook regularly nowadays and see how it can easily take a few hours from my daily routines, how it can distract any one of doing anything else, e.g. study  That’s not what I am about to talk.

I want you to know you can use some of these sites for your own career, development, getting to know new people, the right people too. Ever wondered how you can look for a new job? Magazine advertisements, flayers, job search websites. The process changed, evolved.

80% of employers in US look for new employees on LinkedIn. You’ve send your CV? I can make a bet, you’ve already been searched through Google, GoldenLine, Twitter, LinkedIn.

Social media are growing. Rapidly.

So what now? Well, you can use some of them, the one you find interesting, and market yourself. Take the ‘starting my own company’ for example. There are 4 simple steps to succeed:

1. What’s your target?

Think of what you want to do within the next 5 years. Find the place, position where you want to be. Make it the best place to comfort you and your interests and needs. Andy market trends? You should already know about them :)
Don’t forget about between jobs. They’re important too. You risk you won’ realize the chosen idea, so think of another job where you can work and look for this preferred one

2. Find the way to achieve it.

Now’s the time for brainstorming. We got an aim, let’s think how to get there. It most probably won’t be easy so be prepared to test all the time, experiment and sketch.

You’ve got it? Great, now tell somebody about it within 30 seconds. If it’s doable and s/he at least nodes that it can work – it may be a very good start. Still to long? Too complicated? Try again, but never surrender. You’re looking for a million-dollar making business, don’t forget about that. You need to live, and living with financial safety is so much easier than without it.

3. Choose the right tools

Social Media! The one that may be the most handy. And that’s all in this subject.

4. Connect.

Connect with people, share your thoughts, ideas, comment and talk privately. Make long-lasting relationships that can benefit both of you in the future. Give something good to take back something good or even better. It may take 5 minutes for you and this can make a difference for you.

People are generally open to others. Ask for help if you need one. Interact.

To sum it up. How we get the information, interact, get to know new people and share our thoughts changed a lot over the last decade. Social Media is a great way to express ourselves, to develop ideas but keep in mind that there’s also so much more than just virtual life. Real life, real people, your girlfriend, boyfriend, family and friends.

Together we can make so many great things, discover unique places even while being on a walk or doing it differently than more people, e.g. Valentine’s Day . I love to do that with my closest and dearest girlfriend :)

One more thing… The trends.

Would you mind sharing about:
  • Do you use social media and how it pleasure you?
  • How about using social media for finding new friends?
  • Expressing yourself in Flickr, YouTube – a great way to…?
  • The future. Facebook will survive? Who may vanish and why new websites will succeed?

Games based on anime

Anime has many branches and one of them are computer games.
Popular anime such as "Naruto" and "Bleach" have the large crowds of fans and was founded very much on the basis of games like:

- 'Naruto: Ultimate Ninja 1 "

- 'Naruto: Ultimate Ninja 2 "

- 'Naruto: Ultimate Ninja 3 "

- "Naruto: Shippuuden Accel 1"

- "Naruto: Shippuuden Accel 2"

Arises as the anime series based on the popular computer games like "Devil May Cry" or saga "Final Fantasy". These games are often based on fantastic stories in the distant future. The anime also draws game developers worldwide. Of course there is also a big part of games based on hentai erotic.

Do you know or do you played games based on anime or hentai?

Hentai

The hentai is a controversial part of the culture anime.

There are comics and movies for adult with very courageous erotic stages. They are very popular in Japan and they make on nobody impression but in Europe they are banned and immoral. In hentai young people are main heroes (juvenile), many people in Europe and in the world thinks as pedofilie. Stages in hentai are played school or in family bunch, for many persons this incest and showing of educational system in bad light (for example teacher grow sex with schoolgirl).

Except movies and comics there is a computer game. Games are low-class and satiate with eroticism.

Should it be banned?

How animations is connected to Japanese culture

As an example I will give to you my best title and it is NARUTO anime. There are many aspect of Japanese culture and daily routine. World in Naruto is really connected to the real life. The storyline is about ninja warriors.

The main characters are young warriors : Naruto Uzumaki, Neji Hyuuga, Sasuke Uchiha or Orochimaru each one of them have own special abilities and technique. These young people have to make tough choices in their lives beacouse they live in a cruel world full of fighting ninja clans.

By watching anime or reading Naruto manga we can learn something about several rules and traditions. For example some Japanese phrases like “sensei”- master or how people act before meal etc. There are some religious and historical aspects too. Narutos world is a real image of one of the japanse islands.

People in manga are wearing traditional clothes, houses are Japanese so it gives us a lot of knowedge about the country.

So summarize Naruto is a great combination of fun and useful this is an opportunity to know something and really enjoy it.

What is your opinion about this way of getting knowedge about some countries or cultures??
