What ART is, can you definite it? It seems that any brief definition of art would oversimplify the matter. A work of art is timeless. Art has neither a past nor a future. It comes from the past and creates the future. It shows present. But how do we know whether something is a work of art.?
Guys from Top-Gear tried to work this out:
Im afraid that most of the time things may be recognised by the artworld as works of art for any reason, or for no reason.
And what to do with those things which become art even though they are not. Who has the right to say this is ART.
Another example The Palm in Warsaw: at the begining people hated it but now i think they couldn’t imagine the city without it. The 15 metre artificial palm at the crossing of two of the citie’s main thoroughfares has changed the cityscape forever. And as a symbol of new Warsaw, it has found its way into promotional brochures, postcards ads and video clips.. In december 2002 it was erected by the visual artist Joanna Rajkowska. She was inspired by a recent visit to Israel, and wanted to remind people where the name Aleje jerozolimskie comes from (in the 18th century the street was inhabited by the Jewish community), she simply wanted to change the way people think about urban space. So maybe this example shows how irrational the word of art works. The artworld may classify the crashed car as a work of art if it chooses. So Art and works of art (as they are recognised by the artworld) are only accidentally related, if something triggers emotions sooner or later it will be named ART.
I really can't imagine warsaw without out palm. ;o)

I can't imagine this too :)
ReplyDeletebut when we talk about art - I think that everything is some kind of art. for some people one painting can be amazing, meditative and inspiring; for other people it will be only an ugly painting. Art is something subjective and it's very hard to decide what exactly art ist. You can give YOUR opinion only, but it will always be subjective because there aren't any objective rules for today's art.
And this is only my opinion :)
In my opinion any object humanity has ever and will ever produce could be labelled as art by some people, and regarded as nothing special by others. Nowadays, creating art doesn't seem to be difficult anymore. One just needs an open mind, a creative attitude and some tools to make your artistic dream come true.
