Snowkiting is winter form of kitesurfing. Powered by kite you're gliding on snow or ice, having on foot traditional snowboard or skies. The area for snowkiting can be flat, undulating or mountainous. Snowkiting differs from other alpine sports in that it is possible for the snowkiter to travel uphill and downhill with any wind direction.
Snowkiting is easier to learn that traditional kitesurfing, because of the fact that you're gliding on the tough surface. It can be very hazardous and should be learned and practiced with care.
The speed you can reach on the flat ground exceeds 100km/h. On the frozen lakes it can be even faster. Maximal hight of jump reaches about 40-50 metres, what makes snowkiting extreme sport.
Snowkiting gives also oportunity to slade from the really acute slope, and use kite to fly over obstacles like rocks in mountains. That opens new horizons and gives a huge variety of places where you can get.
In Poland snowkiting is quite new sport, but even though it is full of people practicing this sport in our country and it continuously increases, because it's quite easy to start practicing. There is no need of large snow layer, or downward slope. With skies or snowboard, kite and a scrap of area without energy tractions you can start the ride and feel free!

I'd be very grateful for any tips on how to start Snowkiting adventure ? Best places, snowboards, schools and instructors. Someone ever try it ?
ReplyDeleteWow... I watched some pictures and movies showing people practicing snowkiting before, but all of them were doing it on flat surface (like the lake in your presentation). I had impression that it must be a great experience and that it would be fun to try it once. When I watched your second movie I just thought: 'What an exciting way of suicide!'.
ReplyDeleteHi Marta,
ReplyDeleteStart here: http://www.snowkite.pl/
I've got also telephone number for a guy, who organise courses near Lodz.
Bloody hell, let someone tell me how to stop it ;p
ReplyDeleteIt makes your blood run faster, huh?
ReplyDeleteLook awesome ;)
This is really cool! The guy in the second movie has a deathwish ;)
ReplyDeleteReally fantastic way of traveling. You can visit nearly any place on the mountain!
ReplyDeleteit must be really great but do wouldn't it be better if we attach some wheels? or maybe wind bike? what do you think?
ReplyDeleteAndrzej: Try to ride a bike with parachute on ice.
ReplyDeleteI like the second movie, especially beautiful Swiss mountains. Snowkiting itself is even more extreme than programming without a keyboard, so I’ll stick to just watching movies.
ReplyDeleteDid you mean programming with perforated cards?
ReplyDeleteLike Rafal said second movie is awesome:) But I'm not so brave to try something like on 2nd movie :)
ReplyDeleteKrzysztof - yeah programming with perforated cards are hardcore :)
Its insane. I love it. Traditional downhill is outdated. ;o)
ReplyDeleteI always wanted to try base jumping, but I have never had the opportunity. Base jumping is the most dangerous type of jumps, in my opinion provides more adrenaline than bungee. I wonder how many of you would like to try?
