Just a plant - part 1

In my presentation I would like to talk about Cannabis plant. You can be surprised by this choice, but in USA, UK and in some other countries this is hot topic right now. This year, in march, Barack Obama answered for most popular questions from these suggested by people in the Internet... and did you know, that question from the top of this list was "Would legalizing marijuana improve the economy and job creation?". See for yourself (btw. look on faces of some people standing behind Mr. President ;)

As you can see, Obama acts like he really want to ignore that question but finally he "Just say NO!". I don't like his answer, especially when I remember his past speeches:

and

Good commentary on this is provided on The Young Turks show:

Fortunately, nowadays Obama say that federal low enforcements (especially DEA) should not target legally working medical marijuana pharmacies and patients using marijuana. That is radical change against Bush policy. Under Bush administration, DEA raided a lot of legal medical marijuana stores, confiscate all medicine and arrest people. Unfortunately, reality isn't changing as fast as may would like to - this unexplainable bust happens just week after Obama suggestion of easing up. Watch it here:

For the end I recommend you this discussion on CNBC:

And if you like Santana...

More on medical use and health, economic and political issues associated with Cannabis (and history of it's prohibition) coming soon...

  1. According to Gallup Insitute, more than 4 in 10 Americans -- 44% -- believe the use of marijuana should be legalized, while barely half say it should not be. I think should be legalize only for medical purpose and nothing else.
Cannabis has a long history of medicinal use, with evidence dating back to 4,000 B.C. Among these are: the amelioration of nausea and vomiting, stimulation of hunger in chemotherapy and AIDS patients, lowered intraocular eye pressure (shown to be effective for treating glaucoma), as well as general analgesic effects (pain reliever). Less confirmed individual studies also have been conducted indicating cannabis to be beneficial to a variety of conditions including Multiple sclerosis and depression.

  3. Now this topic is a surprise, albeit not a big one. I agree with Marta's point of view. As a medicine, yes. As an indulgence, no, although it would be something like the whole business around cigarette smoking. Yes, it's unhealthy for those who smoke, but on the other hand, it makes milions for the government...

    Three questions for the author:
Do you smoke marijuana? Why are you so for the legalization? Are you ill somehow and think that marijuana would help you recover?

  4. @Marta: I will talk about this statistics in next parts.

@Wojtek Kubiak: I don't smoke it - smoking anything is unhealthy. There are many safe way to consume Cannabis. I will talk about them in later parts. And finally, yes I use mj as medicine for my health problems (when I'm in Holland). It really helps.
This can be shocking info, but non-smoked Cannabis is just good for your health - I will talk about it later.

  5. Now I'm looking forward to the next parts of your presentation ;)

I've heard of soft-drinks with cannabis extracts and some other gimmicks. I hope you're not thinking of hookahs as a "safe way" :D

BTW, seems that one doesn't have to go all the way to Holland in order to use or possess cannabis more or less legally: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legality_of_cannabis

  6. I have never used marijuana so maybe that's why I don't care about it's legalization. On the other hand I believe that everyone should have right to do what he wants to do. So if there ever will be referendum about legalization of marijuana I will go and vote for it.
Freedom of choice is very important.

  7. To be honest I don't care if the legalise it or not. I won't smoke it. Why? Because I don't want to :)

On the other hand. Alcohol is legal, tobacco is legal, sex is legal. What else do you need? :P

  8. In USA people many are smoking it is illegal but they are taking it in a diferent way it is for them some kind of a way to relax after a hard day. Many people in america thinkg that marijuana is less danger than smokes. So they don't see a reason for marijuana to be banned.

  11. Throwing young people into prison because of illegal possession of small marihuana dose is an absurd. It is unfair, It solves nothing and it has opposite results than it should. The key is to teach, that smoking joints all the time affects your effectiveness and isn’t good for your health.
