Using social media

Online media are great for finding things, bright new ideas and creating stuff. The one thing I want to discuss today is social media and its potential. But first, let’s get back to the beginning.

What’s social media? Do you know Facebook, LinkedIn, GoldenLine? Probably you have heard of it and maybe you are using it. So social media can be described as websites that allow users to share content, media, etc.

Now, something more about how it all started. A small video:

A little bit more about social network:

… and we gave tools. People are using it in ways we couldn’t even imagine when designing it. That’s a great way of saying ‘Hey, let’s try it this way. It doesn’t work? How about this…’.

Most of us don’t need most of them – those tools. I use facebook regularly nowadays and see how it can easily take a few hours from my daily routines, how it can distract any one of doing anything else, e.g. study  That’s not what I am about to talk.

I want you to know you can use some of these sites for your own career, development, getting to know new people, the right people too. Ever wondered how you can look for a new job? Magazine advertisements, flayers, job search websites. The process changed, evolved.

80% of employers in US look for new employees on LinkedIn. You’ve send your CV? I can make a bet, you’ve already been searched through Google, GoldenLine, Twitter, LinkedIn.

Social media are growing. Rapidly.

So what now? Well, you can use some of them, the one you find interesting, and market yourself. Take the ‘starting my own company’ for example. There are 4 simple steps to succeed:

1. What’s your target?

Think of what you want to do within the next 5 years. Find the place, position where you want to be. Make it the best place to comfort you and your interests and needs. Andy market trends? You should already know about them :)
Don’t forget about between jobs. They’re important too. You risk you won’ realize the chosen idea, so think of another job where you can work and look for this preferred one

2. Find the way to achieve it.

Now’s the time for brainstorming. We got an aim, let’s think how to get there. It most probably won’t be easy so be prepared to test all the time, experiment and sketch.

You’ve got it? Great, now tell somebody about it within 30 seconds. If it’s doable and s/he at least nodes that it can work – it may be a very good start. Still to long? Too complicated? Try again, but never surrender. You’re looking for a million-dollar making business, don’t forget about that. You need to live, and living with financial safety is so much easier than without it.

3. Choose the right tools

Social Media! The one that may be the most handy. And that’s all in this subject.

4. Connect.

Connect with people, share your thoughts, ideas, comment and talk privately. Make long-lasting relationships that can benefit both of you in the future. Give something good to take back something good or even better. It may take 5 minutes for you and this can make a difference for you.

People are generally open to others. Ask for help if you need one. Interact.

To sum it up. How we get the information, interact, get to know new people and share our thoughts changed a lot over the last decade. Social Media is a great way to express ourselves, to develop ideas but keep in mind that there’s also so much more than just virtual life. Real life, real people, your girlfriend, boyfriend, family and friends.

Together we can make so many great things, discover unique places even while being on a walk or doing it differently than more people, e.g. Valentine’s Day . I love to do that with my closest and dearest girlfriend :)

One more thing… The trends.

Would you mind sharing about:
  • Do you use social media and how it pleasure you?
  • How about using social media for finding new friends?
  • Expressing yourself in Flickr, YouTube – a great way to…?
  • The future. Facebook will survive? Who may vanish and why new websites will succeed?

  1. I never thought that Facebook or other social media can be used this way - I have only used them to find old friends and stay in touch with them but now I know it can be a good way to find new way of life, better job, some ideas for business. And I think it's very good to find new friends in other countries and then visit them - it's great way to learn new culture in very cheap way :)
you have to try it - it's unforgetable :)

  2. Every human being has a biological, instinctual need to be part of a group. Social networks make it easier to connect and communicate with people who are far away from where you are now. They also help renew old acquaintances and conduct discussions in which a lot of friends can participate.
